Wait! Before you part ways with that empty applesauce cup, ask yourself the following questions. Do you like to craft? Do you like to spend quality time with your kids? Do you like to do nice things for Mother Earth? If you answered yes to any of these questions'we've got just the things.
Got a messy workbench and a hungry stomach? Fill your empty cups with everything from nuts and bolts, to used batteries. Label them on the rim for extra orderliness. With a small plank of wood, a pair of scissors and some hot glue, an empty cup becomes a pretty great birdfeeder. Cut the cup in half (carefully please) so the cup rests flush with the plank. Then fasten the cup to the plank with glue, let it dry, and fill it up.' Just don't put it up without letting the kids decorate. How about a little decoration for your desk? Give a cup a flashy paint job (gold metallic looks great), then transplant or grow some flowers from scratch in your own little makeshift flowerpot. They've held food once, why not again? Salsas, diced onions, cheese cubes, herbs- fill 'em up and cover the top with a little plastic wrap and you've got a perfectly usable (and reusable) container for perishables. BONUS: If crafting isn't really your thing, there is something you can do that's equally cool: recycling. Grab your kids and all the applesauce cups you can carry, then load up that green bin in the garage. Not only is this a great example to set for your kids, it's a great way to get an extra couple hands on the household chores. Isn't recycling great?
