Zeep was very excited for the day ahead of her. Today was School Lunch Hero Day, and Zeep had been talking to her human friends to prepare for it. Zeep was the closest thing the Zee Zees had to a superhero, so of course she was interested when her friends told her a day for heroes was coming up. What was a School Lunch Hero? Zeep's friends explained that every day a group of hard workers made sure that each student had a fun and filling lunch, so they could have a fun and fulfilling day. Zeep wanted to help, so she decided that in honor of School Lunch Hero Day she was going to help out her local lunch lady.
Zeep arrived at school early in the day and went straight for the lunch room. She tracked down the head lunch lady and was introduced to a kind-looking woman named Susan. Susan was delighted to meet Zeep, and more than willing to let her shadow the lunch room for a day.
''I'm always pushing myself to be a better hero," Zeep explained, "That's why I want to shadow you, and see what being a hero means to you. What do you think makes you a hero?"
"Well, you can't learn on an empty stomach," Susan explained. "That's why I take my job very seriously. If I do my best to make sure each student who comes through my line is given a delicious and nutritious meal that helps them do their best to learn and grow!!"
Zeep, as a Zee Zee, knew how important a delicious and nutritious meal was, and agreed that Susan's work was very important.
Susan and Zeep set to work preparing for lunch. "You can help me get the food ready," Susan said. Zeep helped her load up trays and watch the oven. Zeep was delighted when she noticed Susan setting out Zee Zees Applesauce cups, especially when she saw the Super Sour Applesauce cups, because those were Zeep's favorites.
Almost as soon as the food was ready, lunch started. Students started pouring in, lining up to be fed. Zeep helped Susan and the other lunch ladies pile up each students' tray with good food. Some students had made posters or drawings for the lunch ladies to show their appreciation and Zeep smiled when she saw the lunch ladies being given crafts and hugs.
Finally, the last child was fed and lunch time was over. "Wow, that was a lot of work!" Zeep said. "I can't believe we're done now!"
"I do this every day!" Susan laughed. "My work is never done."
"Wow!" Zeep said "You're a real superhero!"
"Thank you," Susan said smiling.
