Ever feel like that around the end of October it seems like you're slowly getting shortchanged on your outdoor after school playtime because it's getting dark outside earlier and earlier? Well it's not just your imagination, there really is a difference between Summertime and Wintertime, and it's all due to something called Daylight Saving Time. It all started way back in 1784 when one of the founding fathers of the United States - Benjamin Franklin wrote a funny essay (see - adults still have to write essays too) about when he took a trip to Paris and noticed how the people there never seemed to get to work before noon, and that giving them an extra hour to enjoy the daylight during the summer months would help make them a lot happier when they got done working. He was just joking, but somebody would eventually take him seriously.
